Some Useful Tips
- Don't let the flour darken too much because it loses some of its thickening ability when it darkens.
- If you want to take your gravy to the next level, you should add some sautéed mushrooms and caramelized onions. Other options include dried or fresh herbs.
- If you don't want to use flour, replace it with cornstarch.
- If you don't have roast juice, you can use beef stock.
How to Thicken Gravy
If your gravy is too thin, take 1 tablespoon of flour and water and slowly whisk the mixture into your gravy. It will thicken perfectly.
How to Thin Gravy
If your gravy is too thick, mix in a little more roast juice to help thin it! Remember to whisk slowly and you will have a perfect consistency.
Make it Gluten-Free
You can use cornstarch for making your gravy gluten-free. Simply whisk 1 tbsp of cornstarch with1 tbsp water until smooth. Pour the mixture into the crock pot and allow it to cook under the lid until it thickens, about 30 minutes to 1 hour. You can add a bit more cornstarch for a thicker gravy.
